Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 27: As part of the Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign being conducted from 17th September 2026 to 2nd October 2026, a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was successfully organized at Dr. R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder, on 26th September 2026. The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local community, voluntary blood donors donating 28 units of blood. The Camp was inaugurated by the Mrs. Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman.
The Blood Donation Camp was organized First time at Dr. R.P. Hospital Mayabunder under the leadership of Dr. SHAILAJA P, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christna Rossity, Medical Officer, Dr. RP Hospital Mayabundar with the support of all medical team of Dr. RP Hospital, Mayabunder.
The Blood Donation Camp was organised in coordination with the Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) and the District Health Society, North & Middle Andaman, with technical support from the Blood Centre, G.B. Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, ANACS and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A & N Islands.
Following the donation, Mrs. S. Aron, Lab Technician, Blood Component Separation Unit, ANACS was deputed to ensure the safe collection, handling and transportation of the collected blood units. The collected blood units were transported from Mayabunder to the Blood Centre, G.B. Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram, through Pawan Hans helicopter services, with the support and coordination of the Directorate of Civil Aviation, A&N Administration, ensuring the safe and timely transfer of the blood units to the Blood Centre for mandatory testing, component separation and further processing.
The successful conduct of the Blood Donation camp and the timely transportation of the collected blood units demonstrated the effective coordination and collaborative efforts of ANACS, District Health Society, North & Middle Andaman, Dr. R.P. Hospital, Blood Centre, G.B. Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Pawan Hans and the Directorate of Civil Aviation towards strengthening blood transfusion services in the islands.
