Port Blair, July 02: A team of Anti-Corruption unit today raided the Sanitary Section of PBMC to investigate alleged manipulation in the appointment of Daily Rated Causal labourers. According to sources the team had seized some peon books and returned.
When Andaman Sheekha correspondent contacted the Chairman of PBMC to know about the issue he charged the Anti-Corruption unit back, for raiding the section without any documents or papers.
“Next time they raid like this without any paper, I shall go to the DGP,” the Chairperson of PBMC, Mr. P B Murugan told Andaman Sheekha today.
He said that a year ago the Supreme Court of India had passed an order that according to the area labors can be appointed. As per the order a subcommittee was appointed and the plan made by PBMC to appoint laborers as passed. The plan was also passed in the councilors’ meeting two months back.
“The tenure for the labors was passed for six months but we appointed them for three months so that we can check the efficiency of the workers and then appoint them again for the next three months. We also published this news in the Daily Telegrams and 580 men were appointed by making wide publicity,” he said.
When asked whether the matter was settled, the Chairman said that the Secretary of PBMC spoke with the SP Anti Corruption and after this the matter was cleared. The peon books, which they had taken has also been returned to PBMC.
