Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 21:An unidentified body was found floating in a drain beneath a culvert on the road connecting Bhatu Basti to Pather Gudda and further towards Prothrapur Atta Chakki this morning, triggering concern among local residents.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. N. K. Udhaya Kumar, former Councillor of the area, said that the body was first noticed by sanitation workers at around 10:00 am while they were cleaning the drainage channel.
The matter was immediately reported to the Pahargaon Police Station, following which the police and Fire Brigade teams reached the spot.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel subsequently entered the drain and worked to recover the body. The body was later placed in a body bag for transportation to the mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
Mr. Udhya Kumar further stated that despite efforts, the identity of the deceased could not be established until around 3:00 pm.
Sources said that the condition of the body made identification difficult and that the authorities were checking available missing-person reports to establish the identity.
