Mayabunder, Sept. 17: As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign, cleanliness drives were conducted today across North & Middle Andaman District with active participation from various line Departments, PRI representatives, educational institutions and local communities.
As part of the district-level activities, beach cleanliness drives were conducted at Karmatang, Raman Bagicha, Baludera and Ramnagar beaches under the aegis of the District Administration, North & Middle Andaman. Officials and staff of various line departments, PRI representatives and students from schools and colleges participated actively in the drive.
During the programme, participants undertook extensive cleanliness and beach sanitation activities, including the collection and removal of litter and waste from the beach premises and adjoining areas. The initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental responsibility, while creating greater public awareness regarding the importance of maintaining clean, hygienic and sustainable public spaces.
A Swachhata Pledge was also administered to the participants during the cleanliness drives. In addition to the beach cleanliness drives, similar cleanliness activities were undertaken at 30 other locations across North & Middle Andaman District by the respective Gram Panchayats and line departments. The activities witnessed enthusiastic participation from PRI representatives, local residents, students, youth and other members of the community.
The District Administration, North & Middle Andaman, has appealed to all residents to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives and sustain the spirit of Swachhata Hi Seva beyond the campaign period by adopting responsible waste-management practices and maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and daily lives.
