Port Blair, June 30: A Special General Meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union was held on Saturday, the 29th June 2013 at 1030 Hrs. in the Union’s Office Building at Taylorabad, South Andaman to discuss the agendas like Consideration of Programme of Activities of the A&N State Cooperative Union for the year 2013-14; Consideration of Progress of Activities of the A&N State Cooperative Union for the year 2012-13; and Consideration of appointment of Auditor(s) / Audit Firm(s) for auditing the accounts of A&N State Cooperative Union (for 2012-13).
Before commencement of the meeting, the house observed two minutes’ silence in memory of those persons who lost their lives recently in Uttarakhand’s natural disaster occurred due to heavy rainfall, landslide, flood and cloud-burst. Earlier, Mr. Ram Lall, General Secretary of the A&N State Cooperative Union as well as the senior-most cooperator on the Board of Directors A&N State Cooperative Union hoisted the seven-coloured cooperative flag in the Union’s office premises.
While delivering the presidential speech on the occasion, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, at the outset, welcomed the delegates of Union’s member-societies who attended the meeting in spite of inclined weather. Mr. Sharma made a special mention to the members who could not attend the meeting due to one reason or the other. Giving a brief account on the achievements made by this Union, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma informed the house that all the achievements made during the year(s) under report, have become possible only with the active help of the members of the General Body – who delegated powers, gave responsibilities and put faith on the present Board of Directors of the Union.
Mr. Sharma informed that the first and foremost work of the present Board of Directors was to develop the infrastructures of the A&N State Cooperative Union. In doing so, a Cooperative Training College, which was the much-needed demand in the cooperative sector, has been established and it is successfully imparting trainings on various subjects like micro Finance, RTI, Leadership Development etc. Furthermore, the entire area of the Union’s Building has been fenced, renovation extension of the Building was undertaken and centres for vocational trainings on tailoring and fashion designing, computer application and beauty parlor were opened in the Union’s Building premises during the tenure of Present Board. Not only that many training centres on tailoring and fashion designing were opened in remotes areas of South Andaman District (Burmanallah, Dairy Farm, Hope Town, Stewartgunj, Birchgunj, Chouldari, Guptapara, Hobdipur etc.) as well as in North & Middle Andaman District (Milangram, Diglipur & Betapur). In future, there is a programme of this Union to open more and more such centres in other areas too, Mr. Sharma informed the house.
Mr. Ram Lall, General Secretary, read out the detailed agenda-items of the meeting and thereafter, in the open session, invited questions, suggestions etc., if there is any, from the delegates of member-societies present in the meeting. Veteran as well as young cooperators namely Mr. B. Banerjee, Mr. C. Hamza, Mr. Noor Hussain, Mr. Swarn Singh, Mr. Nripendra Nath Nag, Mr. Biswanath Nandy among others inter-acted with their questions/suggestions/proposals. All the agenda-items subject to the proposals / suggestions etc. were passed in the meeting.
