Diglipur, Sept. 11: The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the National Institute of Fisheries Post-Harvest Technology and Training (NIFPHATT), Kochi organized a three-day training programme on “Value-Added Product Development from Seafood” under the Climate Resilient Coastal Fishermen Village (CRCFV) initiative of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The programme is being conducted from 11th to 13th September, 2026, at the Extension Office, Industries Department, Diglipur.
NIFPHATT, Kochi, is a reputed institute specializing in fisheries post-harvest technology, seafood processing, value addition and capacity building. The collaboration aims to provide beneficiaries with specialized technical knowledge and practical skills in seafood processing and value addition.
The training programme has been organized to equip fisherwomen and other beneficiaries associated with the fisheries sector with skills in the preparation, processing, preservation, quality assurance and marketing of value-added seafood products. Such value addition can help reduce post-harvest losses, improve shelf life and product quality, enhance market value and create opportunities for additional income, self-employment and entrepreneurship among coastal communities.
The programme also addresses the long-pending demand of fisherwomen in the area for specialized training in seafood value addition and product development. It is intended to support livelihood diversification and encourage the development of small-scale seafood-based enterprises.
The inaugural session was attended by Shri.Santosh Prakash, Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, as the chief guest, along with Shri.Tapan Kumar Biswas, Deputy Director of Fisheries, North & Middle Andaman, as the guest of honour.
The technical sessions are being conducted by two resource persons from NIFPHATT, Kochi, namely Dr. Nitin C.T. and Shri Bineesh K. Mukundan, Processing-cum-Quality Assurance Supervisors. A total of 25 beneficiaries are participating in the training programme.
