Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 11: The State Control Room has issued a weather, fisherman and farmer warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, based on the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Thunderstorm & Lightning Warning
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
The warning is applicable for the period 12 September to 17 September 2026, with the possibility of such weather conditions at isolated locations.
Fishermen Warning
Fishermen along the Andaman and Nicobar coast are advised to exercise extreme caution while venturing into the sea.
According to the warning, swell waves with a period of 17–21 seconds and wave heights of about 1.2–1.6 metres are forecast during the period up to 11:30 PM on 12 September 2026. There is a possibility of surging waves, and boats operating without vigilance may face hazardous conditions.
Fishermen are therefore advised to remain alert, closely monitor weather conditions and follow advisories issued by the authorities.
Advice to Farmers and the Public
Farmers and residents are advised to remain vigilant during thunderstorms and lightning. People should avoid open areas and exposed locations during lightning activity and take necessary precautions against gusty winds.
The authorities have urged all concerned departments, fishermen, farmers and the general public to follow official weather advisories and take appropriate safety measures.
