Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 31: The Andaman & Nicobar Archives, Secretariat, Sri Vijaya Puram, has successfully conducted a Short-Term Internship Programme in Archival Management for recently completed B.A. (History) graduates from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, with monthly remuneration, with the objective of providing practical exposure and hands-on training in various aspects of archival work.
The three-month internship programme, which commenced on 1st June, 2026, provided the interns with practical knowledge and hands-on exposure to important archival activities, including preservation and handling of archival records, basic mending and binding, digitization and data entry, records management, research and documentation.
During the internship, the trainees were given an opportunity to understand the functioning of the Archives and the importance of systematic preservation, management and digitization of historical and administrative records. The programme was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience in the field of archival management.
As per the internship policy, considering the dedication, commitment and satisfactory performance demonstrated by the interns of the first batch during the initial period, the period of internship has been extended for a further three months by the Secretary (Archives). The extension will provide the interns with additional opportunities to deepen their practical knowledge and gain further hands-on experience in various archival activities.
On successful completion of the internship, the Andaman & Nicobar Archives, Secretariat, issued a Certificate of Internship recognizing the satisfactory conduct, performance and participation of the interns during the programme.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the Andaman & Nicobar Archives towards capacity building, promotion of archival awareness and providing practical learning opportunities to students and young graduates of History and related disciplines. Such internship programmes are intended to encourage young learners to appreciate the significance of documentary heritage and develop an interest in archival research, preservation and digital documentation.
The Archives proposes to continue and strengthen such academic and internship initiatives in the future, thereby creating greater opportunities for students and researchers to gain practical exposure to the preservation, management and digitization of the documentary heritage of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
