
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 25: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, deputed five Para-Veterinary staff for a five-day Refresher Training on Artificial Insemination (AI) organised at the Central Cattle Breeding Farm (CCBF), Alamadhi, Chennai, from 17th to 21st August 2026 under the National Livestock Mission (NLM).
During the training programme, comprehensive theoretical and practical sessions were conducted covering introduction to Artificial Insemination and its advantages, State Breeding Policy, AI Standard Operating Procedures, estrous cycle and best time for AI, reproductive indices, precautions during AI, procedures of AI gun preparation and passing, pregnancy diagnosis, mastitis management, infertility problems in female bovines, handling of liquid nitrogen and cryo containers, Sex Sorted Semen and other advanced reproductive technologies.
The participants were also given exposure to on-farm demonstrations including signs of a healthy cow, ideal traits of a good dairy animal, low-cost housing and farm mechanisation, green fodder production, Azolla cultivation, silage preparation, AI laboratory and equipment, calf management tools, organic farming practices and medicinal plant garden.
The training programme concluded with a valedictory session during which certificates of successful completion were awarded to the participants. The knowledge and practical skills gained during the training will help strengthen Artificial Insemination services and improve reproductive management of livestock in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a press release from Dept. of AH&VS said.
