
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 24: Based on information received from reliable sources a joint search team comprising Mr. A. Gopi, Forester; Mr. Tapas Biswas, HFG; Mr. Arun, Mazdoor and Mr. Debasish Biswas, DRM, along with Police personnel from Police Station Humfrygunj, namely SI Ajitabh Kumar Das and ASI Mintu Kumar Dey, proceeded to New Manglutan and conducted a search on 23.08.2026 at about 1830 hrs, and detected one gunny bag concealed in bushes within the premises of the residence of Mr. Ochani Mondal, aged 29 years, S/o Mr. Aditya Mondal, R/o New Manglutan. On examination, the gunny bag was found to contain 23 packets of suspected Andaman Wild Pig meat, each weighing approximately 1 kg, totalling 23 kg.
The 23 kg of suspected Andaman Wild Pig meat was seized following due procedure in the presence of independent witnesses. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the meat and the persons involved in its procurement, possession, storage and intended illegal sale, and further action will be taken in accordance with law.
The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Mr. Rajee George, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, South Andaman Forest Division, and under the guidance of Mr. R.S. Sharath, Assistant Conservator of Forests, and Mr. Amalendu Mondal, Forest Ranger.
The South Andaman Forest Division reiterates its appeal to the general public to cooperate in safeguarding the forests and wildlife of the Islands and to report any information regarding illegal hunting, possession, transport, storage or trade of forest and wildlife produce through the Forest Department Helpline 03192-255228. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
