Sri Vijaya Puram Aug 20: President of Hindu Seva Sangh, Mr. Abhay Kumar, has urged the A&N Administration to designate a suitable site for the immersion of idols during the upcoming Ganesh Puja and Durga Puja celebrations.
In a representation addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Abhay Kumar highlighted the difficulties faced during previous idol immersion ceremonies. He recalled that in his earlier communication dated September 22, 2025, he had raised concerns over idols immersed at Marina Park and Junglighat Jetty reportedly returning to the shore.
According to the representation, the resurfacing of immersed idols not only created difficulties in their proper disposal but also caused concern among devotees regarding the religious sanctity of the immersion ceremony, besides raising issues related to cleanliness and environmental management at public locations.
In view of the upcoming festive season, Hindu Seva Sangh has requested the Administration to consider permitting and earmarking the newly constructed Chatham Slipway Jetty, Vehicle Ferry services, or any other suitable dedicated site for idol immersion.
The organisation stated that a suitable deeper-water location would help ensure proper immersion of idols and reduce the possibility of idols returning to the shore, while also maintaining cleanliness at prominent public areas.
Mr. Abhay Kumar has appealed to the Administration to consider the request on priority so that Puja Committees across the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal area can make necessary arrangements and plan their immersion ceremonies accordingly.
