Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 19: Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder, observed the National ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from 9th to 17th August 2026 through a series of patriotic programmes organised by NSS Units 1 and 2 of the college.
The week-long celebration commenced with the participation in the Tiranga Rally from Netaji Sports Complex to Danapur Junction organized by the District Administration North & Middle Andaman. The rally was flagged of by the Chief Guest Mr. Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of North and Middle Andaman. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers and students of MGGC, faculty members, and school students, who marched through the town carrying the tricolour and spreading awareness about the importance of hoisting the national flag at every household.
As part of the campaign, NSS volunteers of MGGC also distributed Tiranga flags to 100 households in the adopted Rampur village Mayabunder and surrounding areas, encouraging citizens to participate in the ‘Selfie with Tiranga’ initiative on the official portal harghartiranga.com.
The programme culminated on 17th August 2026 with a grand cultural event held at the college premises. The event featured Group Dance performances and Group Song renditions on patriotic themes, and a Speech Competition on the theme “Indian Independence: On the Pain of Partition”, where students reflected on the historical significance and sacrifices associated with India’s freedom struggle
Dr. R.V.R. Murthy the principal of MGGC graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the final day programme. In his address, he commended the students and NSS volunteers for their dedication and emphasised the importance of instilling patriotic values among the youth.
Earlier Dr. G. Godson Bedeiah, NSS Program officer of Unit -2, welcomed the gathering and Dr. Kandimuthu, NSS Program officer of Unit – 1 expressed gratitude to all the faculty coordinators, and all NSS volunteers for making the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign a resounding success. The college reaffirmed its commitment to fostering national pride and civic responsibility among students through the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative.
