Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 19: State Youth President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Mr. Angshuman Roy, has urged the Lieutenant Governor, Member of Parliament and Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to consider and facilitate the installation of a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Shivapuram Gram Panchayat Bhawan in North & Middle Andaman.
In a representation addressed to the concerned authorities, Mr. Roy highlighted the historic association of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose with the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and recalled his contribution to India’s freedom struggle. He noted that Netaji had unfurled the Tricolour in the Islands in 1943 and that the Government of India has undertaken several initiatives to commemorate his legacy.
According to the representation, Mr. Venkateswar Rao, Pradhan of Shivapuram Gram Panchayat, has reportedly been pursuing the proposal for the past three to four years. The Panchayat has completed various formalities, including preparation of an estimate, identification of suitable land, arrangement of funds and obtaining the necessary Gram Sabha resolution.
Mr. Roy requested the authorities to examine all lawful avenues for permitting the installation of the statue and to consider whether any appropriate Central or UT Government scheme, commemorative programme, cultural heritage initiative or other permissible funding mechanism could support the proposal.
He stated that installing a statue of Netaji at the Panchayat level would fulfil a long-standing aspiration of the local residents while helping preserve the historical connection of the Islands with the freedom struggle.
He further emphasized that such an initiative would serve as a source of inspiration for the younger generation and strengthen awareness about Netaji’s historic contribution to India’s independence.
Mr. Roy has appealed to the concerned authorities to personally intervene and facilitate an appropriate lawful solution at the earliest.
