Port Blair, Jun 25: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC sent a SOS message through speed post and e-mail to the Union Home Minister Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, and requested him to expedite release quota of 40 MBBS seats to the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, as was requested him by Mr. Sharma in the meeting of 4th June, 2013.
Mr. Sharma stated that the results of Class XII of CBSE have been declared and a good number of local students are eligible for allotment of MBBS seats from the quota being considered by the Central and State Governments.
Mr. Sharma has also informed him that just in case the consideration of Mr. Shinde for enhancing MBBS seats from existing 15 seats to 40 seats is not received in time, utmost desire of many aspirants, willing to serve the country and the Islands as Doctors will go in vain and they will face mental frustration.
Though eligible for getting seats in Medical colleges, the parents of such eligible and meritorious students cannot afford the exorbitant expenditure to opt for MBBS seats in medical colleges at mainland for their children since most of them belong to upper middle, middle or lower middle class and out of their small income sending their children for acquiring MBBS degree is a day dream for them.
Under these circumstances, Mr. Sharma has earnestly requested the Minister to kindly look into the matter and consider the request for enhancing the MBBS seats from the existing number of 15 to 40 seats at the earliest by giving special consideration to these local students who, from the beginning of their studies to passing out class XIIth standard have faced many constraints which their counterparts at mainland cannot even dream of.
