Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 18: Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days, according to the latest weather warning issued by the State Control Room.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places, while gusty winds of 40–50 kmph accompanied by lightning may occur at one or two places over the islands during the forecast period.
A Fishermen Warning has also been issued for the Andaman & Nicobar coast. Squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts from August 19 to 22. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the coasts during this period.
A Swell Surge Alert has also been issued for the coast of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Swell waves with a period of 17–23 seconds and height of 1.4–2.8 metres are forecast from 8:30 a.m. on August 18 to 11:30 p.m. on August 19. There is a possibility of surging waves, and boats have been advised to operate with utmost vigilance and recreation with due care.
The Farmer Warning indicates that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at one or two places over the islands, with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph also expected at isolated locations during the forecast period.
The authorities have advised fishermen, farmers and the general public to remain alert and follow necessary precautions in view of the weather conditions.
