Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 17: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), with the technical support of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is organizing a two-day training programme on “Strengthening Hospital Preparedness, Safety and Emergency Response: From Planning to Action” on 17th and 18th August 2026 at the Conference Hall of Tagore Government College of Education, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The training programme was inaugurated on 17.08.2026 by Shri Madhup Vyas, IAS, Executive Director, NIDM, MHA, in the presence of Dr. Sachin Shinde, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), A & N Administration.
Addressing the participants, Shri Madhup Vyas, emphasized that hospital preparedness is a critical pillar of disaster management, particularly in the multi-hazard context of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He highlighted NIDM’s efforts in strengthening health-sector resilience through capacity building on hospital preparedness, climate and health, public health emergencies, psychosocial care and mental health, and fire safety. Stressing the theme “From Planning to Action,” he underscored the need for hospitals to regularly test disaster management plans through drills, ensure effective communication and continuity of critical services, and adopt inclusive preparedness that protects vulnerable communities.
Dr. Sachin Shinde, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), also deliberated on the importance of strengthening the preparedness and response capacities of hospitals and healthcare institutions to deal with disasters, emergencies and other critical situations.
Dr. Mukesh Tripathi, Director, ANIIMS, thanked all the participants (Doctors, Faculty, and Nursing Officers) for their enrolment in the training programme and expressed that they would contribute effectively towards strengthening institutional preparedness and ensuring timely coordinated and effective delivery of healthcare services during emergencies.
The two-day programme brings together healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge and practical understanding of hospital emergency preparedness and disaster risk management.
