Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 14: The Andaman & Nicobar Command is set to add colour and grandeur to the 80th Independence Day celebrations with a special joint illumination of ships and vessels at anchorage off the Marina Flag Point Sea front in Sri Vijaya Puram on August 15.
Ships and vessels of the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and Directorate of Shipping Services will participate in the illumination programme, which will be held between 5:45 PM and 10:00 PM. The special display is expected to provide a spectacular view for Islanders gathered along the Flag Point and Marina Sea front to witness the Independence Day celebrations.
A major highlight of the programme will be the synchronized firing of colourful flares and switching on of contour illumination lights by the participating ships at 5:39 PM on August 15. The coordinated display over the waters of Sri Vijaya Puram is expected to create a striking visual spectacle as the Island celebrates the 80th Independence Day.
The joint illumination and accompanying musical performances are aimed at adding to the festive atmosphere of the national celebration and highlighting the spirit of patriotism, unity and national pride.
Islanders can witness the special Independence Day display from the Flag Point and Marina Sea front in Sri Vijaya Puram on August 15.
