Campbell Bay, Aug 11: A truck that had fallen into the sea from the Campbell Bay Jetty last Tuesday was successfully recovered from the water on Tuesday evening at around 4:30 PM, bringing an end to a challenging five-day recovery operation.
The recovery operation witnessed a major contribution from the Indian Navy’s MARCOS (Marine Commandos) team, who played a crucial role in locating the submerged truck. The MARCOS personnel carried out underwater diving operations and successfully located the vehicle on the seabed.
Following the identification of the truck, the MARCOS team assisted in securing the vehicle with ropes and helped prepare it for the recovery operation. Their expertise and underwater support proved to be instrumental in making the recovery possible.
The submerged truck was eventually lifted out of the sea with the help of two 20-tonne cranes belonging to the Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW) Department. Several specialised pieces of equipment required for the operation were provided by the District Headquarters Coast Guard, Campbell Bay, which also extended important logistical and operational support.
The Campbell Bay Police also played a significant role in maintaining coordination and ensuring the smooth execution of the operation.
The entire recovery operation was carried out through the collective efforts of the Defence forces and local administration, including the Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay, along with the Indian Navy, MARCOS, Coast Guard, ALHW and Police authorities.
A special mention also goes to the PMB authorities and their staff, who extended timely support and necessary permission for the recovery operation. Their cooperation was particularly important as the upcoming MV Campbell Bay is scheduled to arrive next Tuesday. Clearing the submerged truck from the jetty area was essential to ensure that the vessel can safely approach and berth at the jetty without obstruction.
The owner of the truck, Mr. Pandian, expressed his gratitude to the Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay, the entire MARCOS team, Andaman and Nicobar Command, Indian Navy, Coast Guard and ALHW Department for their valuable support and efforts in recovering the vehicle.
