Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 09: A virtual training session on prevention and control of snake bite envenoming organised by Directorate of Health Services in association with National Health Mission on 06th August, 2026 at the conference hall of Directorate of Health Services with the aim of enhancing the clinical preparedness of frontline healthcare professionals in managing snake bite cases. Participants were all the Medical Officers/Chief Medical Officers (Allopathy, Homeopathy & Ayurveda) of Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals of A&N Islands.
The virtual training was organized under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, State Nodal Officer (PCSBE).
The session was conducted by the resource person, Dr. Shiv Shankar Singh, M.D (Medicine) who imparted a detailed training on the clinical management and response to snake bite. The training aims to enhance the knowledge and preparedness of healthcare professionals in effectively managing snake bite cases, proper referral mechanisms administration of anti-snake venom (ASV) and treatment associated with snake envenomation which is considered a critical aspect of emergency healthcare services.
This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Health Services in association with National Health Mission to build capacity among healthcare providers and ensure effective emergency response mechanisms at the grassroots level.
The participants were earlier welcomed by Dr. Subrata Saha, State Nodal Officer (PCSBE). Around 100 participants were benefitted from this virtual training programme.
The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Subrata Saha, State Nodal Officer (PCSBE) and Dr. Rajiv Ghosh, MPH, District Public Health Officer who reiterated the Directorate’s commitment to strengthening emergency healthcare services at all levels.
The programme concluded with a discussion on challenges faced by healthcare professionals in handling snake bite cases. Participants expressed their appreciation for the initiative and pledged to apply the knowledge gained to improve patient outcomes in their respective healthcare facilities.
