Port Blair, June 23: The drive against drunken driving, conducted by A & N Police since last few months, has yielded wonderful results. The drive, which has come as a great relief for house wives and general public, has now shown drastic decrease in the number of accidents in city. To obtained data regarding road accidents Andaman Sheekha reporters visited three Police Stations viz P S Pahargaon, PS Chatham and PS Aberdeen and the data shows nearly 30 percent decrease in number of road accidents in city.
According to data collected by Andaman Sheekha team, since Jan 2012 to May 2012 altogether 62 cases of road accidents were lodged in all these three Police Stations, whereas after launch of the drive against drunken driving this year, Since Jan 2013 to May 2013, only 42 cases of accidents have been lodged in PS Chatham, Aberdeen and Pahargaon.
As per data in PS Aberdeen 39 cases of accidents were lodged in 2012 (from Jan to May) were as in 2013 (Jan to May) the numbers were only 26. Similarly in PS Pahargaon the numbers were 20 in 2012 (Jan to May) while in 2013 (Jan to May) it was only 16 and at Chatham this year (Jan to May) there was no accident case where as last year (Jan to May) there were three cases.
The figures clearly indicate that how beneficial such drive against drunken driving is for people of these Islands. Of course a few groups are planning to pressurize administration to stop this drive but Andaman Sheekha hopes that the Police Department will continue such drive for the larger interest of Islanders.
