Sri Vijaya Puram, August 4: The Indian National Congress has formally launched its organisational restructuring exercise in South Andaman as part of the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) nationwide Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA), aimed at revitalising the party’s grassroots structure and identifying a new generation of leaders.
Addressing a press conference in Sri Vijaya Puram, Mr. Nivedith Alva, Secretary, AICC & In-charge Tamil Nadu SSA Observer for South Andaman DCC, said the campaign follows the resolution adopted during the Congress Session held in Ahmedabad, where Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders declared the current period as the “Year of Organisation” and the “Year of Reorganisation.”
Mr. Alva said the first phase of the nationwide exercise focuses on strengthening District Congress Committees (DCCs). Across the country, there are over 1,000 DCCs, of which nearly 700 have already been covered under the SSA process. The objective, he said, is to appoint DCC presidents who are not only capable leaders but are also accountable for the performance and growth of their respective organisations.
He explained that senior Congress leaders have been appointed as observers across the country to oversee the process. These include former Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, CLP leaders, former office-bearers and serving AICC Secretaries, who are visiting districts to interact with party workers and gather feedback before recommending suitable candidates.
Mr. Alva said the South Andaman exercise will involve extensive consultations with Congress workers at the block level. The feedback collected during these interactions will be submitted to the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, where the final decision on the appointment of the District Congress Committee President will be taken, in line with the process being followed across the country.
Following the appointment of the DCC President, executive committees will be constituted and each office-bearer will be assigned clearly defined roles and responsibilities. He added that the present exercise is only the first stage of a broader organisational overhaul, after which Mandal Committees, Block Congress Committees and Village Committees will also be restructured and strengthened.
Mr. Alva said the initiative draws inspiration from Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and seeks to strengthen the party’s ideological foundation while creating opportunities for emerging leadership. He said the Congress aims to identify promising leaders from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities, women and other sections of society, thereby ensuring wider representation within the organisation.
Appealing to Congress workers in South Andaman, Mr. Alva urged them to actively participate in the SSA process and work collectively to make the organisational exercise a success. He said the AICC closely monitors the entire process on a daily basis and all observers function strictly within the guidelines laid down by the party leadership.
On the occasion, Mr. Alva formally released the application form for the post of South Andaman District Congress Committee President. Interested applicants may collect or download the prescribed form and submit it to the observer within the stipulated period. He also informed that the SSA programme will continue in phases, with meetings already scheduled across various blocks until August 7 in first phase to interact with party workers and senior leaders before the selection process is finalised.
