Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 04: The State Control Room has issued a weather warning forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, and lightning at isolated places across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands over the next six days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall (07–11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 5 and 6. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 50–60 kmph and lightning are also likely to occur at isolated places during this period.
From August 7 to 10, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph are expected to continue at isolated places across the Islands.
A fishermen warning has also been issued for the Andaman and Nicobar coasts. Squally winds with speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the coasts till August 8. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
The advisory further mentions a swell surge alert for the Andaman and Nicobar coasts, with swell waves of 1.8 to 2.5 metres expected. Small boats and vessels have been advised to exercise utmost caution while operating at sea.
Farmers have also been advised to take necessary precautions, as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may affect agricultural activities during the forecast period.
The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in the prevailing weather conditions. Residents have been urged to stay alert, follow official weather advisories, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
