Sri Vijaya Puram, July 29: As part of its Community Policing Initiative and the “Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushhaal Bharat” campaign, South Andaman District Police has intensified anti-drug awareness activities across the district, reaffirming its commitment to building a healthy, safe, and drug-free society. Through sustained outreach programmes, the district police have been sensitizing students, youth, shopkeepers, tourists, drivers, senior citizens, and members of the general public on the harmful effects of drug abuse, the provisions of the NDPS Act, and the importance of community participation in preventing narcotics-related offences.
During the campaign, PS Aberdeen conducted awareness programmes at Junglighat, Ratna Market, Marine Jetty, and Marina Park; PS Hutbay OP R.K. Pur at R.K. Pur Vegetable Market and V.K. Pur Bazaar; PS Bambooflat at Mannarghat, Tsunami Pahad, Hope Town, Shore Point, North Bay, and Government Middle School, Mile Tilak; PS Humfrygunj at Government Senior Secondary School, Manglutan, Manglutan Playground, and Guptapara; PS Ograbraj at Chouldari Market and Ferrargunj Market; PS Shaheed Dweep at Neil Kendra Market, Bharatpur Beach Parking Area, Sitapur Parking Area, Government Secondary School Neil Kendra, and PS Shaheed Dweep; and PS Swaraj Dweep at Govind Nagar No. 2, Govind Nagar No. 3, Vijay Nagar No. 5, Kala Pathar Village, and Government Middle School, Kala Pathar. These programmes encouraged citizens to adopt a drug-free lifestyle, remain vigilant, and promptly share information regarding drug trafficking or abuse with the police.
A key highlight of the campaign was the active participation of the Police Entertainment Team (PET), which conducted engaging Nukkad Natak (street plays) and cultural performances at educational institutions and public venues. Through impactful storytelling and interactive performances, the PET effectively conveyed messages on the dangers of drug addiction, resisting peer pressure, the importance of informed decision-making, and the collective responsibility of society in realizing the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
