Sri Vijaya Puram, July 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), through the State Control Room, has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning at isolated places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
According to the weather forecast, from July 29 to August 03, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places across the Islands. Residents have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
A Fishermen Warning has also been issued for the Andaman & Nicobar coast. Squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts till July 29. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
The IMD has further issued a Swell Surge Alert for the Andaman & Nicobar coast. Swell waves ranging between 1.6 and 1.8 metres, with a wave period of 16–18 seconds, are forecast till 2:30 PM on July 29. Authorities have advised that there is a possibility of surging waves and urged boats to ply with utmost vigilance. People engaging in recreational activities along the coast have also been advised to exercise due caution.
A Farmer Warning has also been issued, indicating that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely to occur at isolated places over the Islands from July 29 to August 1. Farmers have been advised to take appropriate measures to safeguard crops, livestock, and agricultural equipment from the expected weather conditions.
The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in the prevailing weather conditions. The Administration has urged residents to keep track of official weather updates and follow safety advisories issued by the concerned authorities.
