
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 26: The Directorate of Shipping Services has commenced the operation of a chartered 50-passenger (Pax) ferry service at Diglipur under its recently concluded Chartering Agreement with three operators.
The chartered ferry service connecting Aerial Bay – Gandhi Nagar – Smith Island commenced operations on 26th July, 2026 at 0900 hrs. The service was formally flagged off by Mr. Santosh Prakash Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur in the presence of the PRI Members and Deputy Director, Shipping Services Mr. J. Gopinath, during a function held at Aerial Bay Jetty.
The introduction of this chartered ferry service is aimed at providing reliable and efficient connectivity for residents, commuters, and tourists travelling between Aerial Bay, Gandhi Nagar, and Smith Island. The initiative is expected to significantly improve transportation facilities in the Diglipur region while ensuring greater convenience and operational efficiency.
It is further emphasized that introduction of these vessels will not affect the existing passenger ticket fares. The fare structure shall continue to be regulated and notified by the Directorate of Shipping Services, ensuring that passengers continue to avail ferry services at the prevailing Government-approved rates.
