Sri Vijaya Puram, July 18: Long Island Zilla Parishad Member Mr. Ashok Halder has urged the Directorate of Shipping Services and the Administration to expedite the construction of the long-pending (new) Yeratta Jetty.
While talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. Halder today said the Yeratta Jetty was severely damaged several years back. He said the issue has been raised several times during District Planning Committee meetings, and senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, had visited the site and assured that work would commence soon. However, construction has yet to begin.
Mr. Halder also reiterated the long-standing demand for construction of a vehicle ferry jetty at Yeratta, stating that the route serves as one of the shortest and most important links connecting Rangat and Long Island. According to him, completion of the jetty and introduction of three daily ferry trips would significantly improve transportation, support tourism, enable daily commuters to travel for work, and create better employment opportunities for local residents. He urged the Shipping Services to take immediate steps to complete the infrastructure and enhance ferry services in the larger public interest.
