Sri Vijaya Puram, July 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
According to the weather bulletin issued by the State Control Room, thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places over the Islands from July 19 to July 23. The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in weather conditions.
The IMD has stated that there are no fishermen warning for the Andaman & Nicobar coast at present. However, a Swell Surge Alert remains in force. Swell waves in the range of 1.5–1.7 metres with a period of 16.0–17.0 seconds are forecast up to 20:30 hrs on July 17, 2026. There is a possibility of surging waves, and boats have been advised to ply with utmost vigilance. Those engaged in recreational activities have also been advised to exercise due caution.
The general public, fishermen and all concerned departments have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
