
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 17: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, conducted awareness programmes on prevention of animal bites, stray animal menace, and rabies in two locations of North & Middle Andaman.
On 14th July 2026, an awareness programme on Stray Dog Bite Prevention & Stray Dog Management was organised at Government Primary School, Subhash Gram, Diglipur by the Veterinary Hospital, Diglipur. The programme was conducted by the Senior Veterinary Officer along with the staff of Veterinary Hospital Diglipur. A total of 403 students and 16 teaching and non-teaching staff participated in the session. Students were educated on the dos and don’ts to be followed while encountering stray dogs, immediate steps to be taken in the event of a dog bite, and the importance of dog vaccination and sterilization for disease prevention and population control.
On 15th July 2026, another awareness programme on prevention of animal bite, stray animal menace, and rabies was conducted at Government Senior Secondary School (GSS), Calicut by the Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Hospital Garacharma. Altogether 7 teachers and 65 students participated in the programme.
Both programmes aimed at creating awareness among school children about safe behaviour around stray animals, preventive measures against dog bites, and responsible community participation in stray animal management. The students actively interacted during the sessions and showed keen interest in understanding the safety practices.
The Department of AH&VS continues to conduct such awareness programmes in schools and communities to promote public health, responsible behaviour towards animals, and effective stray dog bite prevention, a press release from Dept. of AH&VS said.
