Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16: Two young men lost their lives in a tragic motorcycle accident near Azad Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Bambooflat Police Station, this morning.
According to police, information about the accident was received over the phone at around 10:00 a.m., following which a police team, rushed to the spot after informing the Wimberlygunj Outpost. By the time the team reached the accident site, personnel from OP Wimberlygunj had already shifted the two injured riders to the Health and Wellness Centre (HWC), Wimberlygunj.
Doctors at the HWC declared both victims “brought dead,” stating that they had sustained fatal head injuries.
During the inspection of the accident site near Shri Cherian’s residence in Azad Nagar, police found a damaged traffic signboard with freshly broken concrete at its base. The motorcycle and a helmet were discovered in a damaged condition near nearby Casuarina trees. However, no eyewitnesses were found despite inquiries in the surrounding area.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the two youths were travelling from Stewartgunj towards Wimberlygunj at a high speed when the motorcycle reportedly lost control, struck the traffic signboard, and then crashed into the trees before both riders were thrown into a roadside ditch. The severe injuries sustained in the impact are believed to have caused their deaths.
As no eyewitness or evidence indicating the involvement of any other person has been found so far, Bambooflat Police have registered a suo motu FIR under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against an unknown person. Further investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.
