
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 13: In a concerted effort to curb the illegal possession, sale of liquor, South Andaman Police carried out a series of successful excise enforcement operations across the district during the past week. Acting on intelligence inputs, routine patrolling, and targeted drives, multiple police stations registered cases under the relevant provisions of the Excise Regulation.
The most significant operation was conducted by PS Pahargaon, where police seized 93 bottles of IMFL from a room near the Vegetable Market. The operation was led by Insp. Sahil Shamsuddin, SHO PS Pahargaon. In another operation, the same police station recovered 08 bottles of illicit IMFL near NK Crusher, Kamaraj Nagar, from a habitual excise offender with multiple previous involvements. These operations underscore the proactive enforcement efforts of PS Pahargaon against illegal liquor trade.
A team from PS Ograbraj conducted a jungle search at Ram Nagar and detected 50 litres of lehan (fermented wash) stored in plastic containers for illicit liquor preparation. The entire quantity was destroyed on the spot after photography and videography as per prescribed procedure, thereby preventing the manufacture of illegal liquor.
During patrolling at Ongi Tikrey, Little Andaman, PS Hut Bay recovered 18 kg of illicit handia (14 kg in a plastic bucket and 4 kg in an aluminium container) concealed behind a residence. A sample was collected for chemical analysis and a case was registered under Section 32 of Regulation III of 1876.
Additional operations by PS Aberdeen, PS Humfrygunj, and PS Hut Bay resulted in the seizure of multiple bottles of IMFL from Ratna Market, Wandoor, and V.K. Pur, Little Andaman. All cases have been registered under the relevant provisions of the Excise Regulation, and further investigations are in progress.
South Andaman Police remain steadfast in its zero-tolerance approach towards illegal liquor activities. The coordinated efforts of our police stations, intelligence gathering, regular patrolling, and swift enforcement actions have significantly strengthened excise enforcement across the district. We will continue to take strict legal action against those involved in the illegal possession, sale, transportation, and manufacture of liquor.”
