Sri Vijaya Puram, July 09: The Transport Department has placed the driver of the State Transport Service (STS) bus involved in Thursday’s road accident near Kishorinagar under suspension pending enquiry, even as the District Administration has stepped up relief measures and assured all possible assistance to the injured passengers. The action has been taken following the unfortunate accident involving the STS bus operating on the Diglipur–Paschimsagar route.
According to an official press release issued by the Administration, the accident occurred at around 2.45 p.m. near Kishorinagar when the bus, carrying 58 passengers, including school students and civilians, overturned. The incident resulted in injuries to 28 persons, comprising 17 school students and 11 civilians.
The Administration stated that rescue and relief operations were launched immediately after information about the accident was received. The injured were shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Kishorinagar, where they were provided immediate medical attention. The Assistant Commissioner/Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Diglipur, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Diglipur, and the medical team from the Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Diglipur, promptly reached the accident site and supervised the rescue operations.
As per the official release, after initial medical examination at PHC Kishorinagar, 14 injured students and all 11 injured civilians were referred to the Sub-District Hospital, Diglipur, for further evaluation and treatment. The remaining three students, who had sustained minor injuries, were treated at PHC Kishorinagar and discharged.
The Chief Medical Officer, Sub-District Hospital, Diglipur, has informed that all 25 patients admitted to the hospital are stable and remain under continuous medical observation.
The Administration further stated that one 16-year-old male student has experienced difficulty in swallowing following the accident and requires specialised ENT evaluation. Accordingly, he is being referred to G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram, for further treatment. Arrangements have been made to airlift the student from Diglipur on Friday morning to ensure that he receives specialised medical care without delay.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, visited the Sub-District Hospital to review the condition of the injured patients. During the visit, he interacted with the medical team and directed that all necessary treatment and assistance be extended without any delay. The Chief Medical Officer once again confirmed that all admitted patients are in stable condition.
Taking serious note of the incident, the Transport Department has suspended the bus driver pending completion of the enquiry. The Administration stated that a detailed investigation has also been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and fix responsibility.
According to the official press release, the District Administration is closely monitoring the situation and continues to extend all necessary assistance to the injured passengers and their families. It has assured that every possible effort is being made to provide the best available medical care and support to all those affected by the accident.
