
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 08: In pursuance of the Nationwide Drug Disposal Campaign being observed from 26th June to 10th July, 2026, and as part of its continuing efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse, the Andaman & Nicobar Police successfully carried out the disposal of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances pertaining to 63 NDPS cases on 08th July, 2026, in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Seizure, Storage, Sampling and Disposal) Rules, 2022.
The disposal comprised a total of 69.534 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including 14.554 kg of Ganja, 38.592 kg of Methamphetamine, 14.145 kg of Methaqualone and 2.243 kg of Cocaine, having an estimated illicit market value of approximately ₹43.58 crore, calculated as per the prescribed rates used for valuation of seized drugs. The seized contraband was destroyed through scientific incineration at the authorised incineration facility of INHS Dhanvantri, Minnie Bay, strictly adhering to the prescribed legal procedures, safety protocols and environmental safeguards.
The disposal drive was conducted under the overall leadership and guidance of Mr. Ravindra Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Mrs. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP (HQ) in the presence of senior police officers and Members of the Drug Disposal Committee chaired by Mr. Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), with Mr. Balram, DANIPS, Superintendent of Police (HQ), and Ms. Niyati Mittal, DANIPS, Superintendent of Police (APU), as Members of the Committee. The entire disposal process was conducted in accordance with the prescribed statutory procedures, ensuring transparency, accountability and compliance with the applicable safety and environmental norms.
The successful destruction of the seized narcotic drugs reflects the unwavering commitment of the Andaman & Nicobar Police towards effective enforcement of the NDPS Act, timely disposal of seized contraband, prevention of its misuse and recycling into illicit channels, and strengthening of the criminal justice system.
The Andaman & Nicobar Police continues to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against drug trafficking through intelligence-based enforcement, financial investigation, inter-agency coordination, capacity building and sustained public awareness programmes. Continuous efforts are being made to dismantle drug trafficking networks, prevent substance abuse and ensure a safe, secure and drug-free society.
