Sri Vijaya Puram, July 02: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Brookshabad, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in association with the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, successfully conducted a series of Assessment Camps under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) Scheme and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) across South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman districts.
The camps were organized by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), West Bengal State Office. The assessment camps were conducted by a dedicated PMDVK team comprising Mr. Sabbir Rahaman Biswas, Prosthetist & Orthotist, ALIMCO; Mr. Rajesh Kumar, DEO, ALIMCO; and Mr. Naveen Anand, Audiologist, ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram. The team travelled extensively to conduct the assessment camps at CRC Brookshabad, PHC Ferrargunj, PHC Baratang, CHC Rangat, District Hospital Mayabunder, and CHC Diglipur.
The initiative witnessed an encouraging response from the public, with approximately 300 Divyangjan and senior citizens attending the camps. During the camps, eligible beneficiaries were medically assessed, screened, and their documents were verified and collected for processing under the respective schemes. Based on the recommendations of the assessment teams, suitable assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walking sticks, hearing aids, lumbosacral (LS) belts, knee braces, cervical collars, and other mobility and supportive aids will be provided to the eligible beneficiaries.
These assistive devices will be distributed free of cost by ALIMCO under the CSR initiative of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), with the objective of enhancing the mobility, independence, and quality of life of persons with disabilities and senior citizens across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Mrs. Sumithamol.S, Director, Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, formally inaugurated the assessment camps on 22nd June 2026 at CRC, Brookshabad, followed by a series of camps in both the districts, she further expressed her gratitude to the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, ALIMCO, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), district administration, health institutions, Panchayati Raj Institutions, and all stakeholders for their wholehearted support in the successful conduct of the camps.
She appreciated the active participation of the beneficiaries and emphasized that such collaborative initiatives play a significant role in ensuring that welfare schemes reach the most deserving sections of society, particularly those residing in remote and rural areas.
The Director further stated that CRC, Brookshabad remains committed to working in close coordination with various departments and organizations to promote inclusive rehabilitation services and improve accessibility for persons with disabilities and senior citizens across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The Composite Regional Centre extends its sincere appreciation to all PMDVK officials, CDPOs, Anganwadi Workers & other ICDS Staff of Social Welfare Department, healthcare professionals, volunteers, community leaders, PRI representatives, and local administration whose dedicated efforts contributed to the smooth and successful conduct of the assessment camps. The distribution of assistive devices to the assessed beneficiaries will be organized in due course after completion of the necessary processing by ALIMCO.
