Port Blair, June 18: Through a group of local news papers the acute scarcity of Petrol at Carnicobar has come to the knowledge of the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma who met the Lt Governor today and briefed him the pathetic condition of the people of the area. He has stated that due to untimely and insufficient supply of Petrol most of the time the movement of vehicles comes to standstill. Many buses are either withdrawn or movement of buses are restricted for which the people, especially women, children, farmers and elderly person feels themselves helpless and thus has urged his intervention so that timely and sufficient quantity of Petrol is made available there so that the tribal may not feel themselves neglected.
Sharma has also stated that a Petrol pump is very much necessary to Mayabunder where district hospital and many Government offices, Banks are situated. For want of petrol the govt and private vehicles have to sent at a distanced place for fuelling. Farmers, school and college going students, small businessmen etc having two, three or four wheelers are demanding for a Petrol pump for long time.
Sharma has also requested the Administrator to consider one petrol pump each at Neil and Havelock islands and briefed him that through the efforts of AN Administration Neil and Havelock islands have become a very favorite tourist spots for the inland and foreign tourists. As a result the numbers of two and four wheelers have considerably increased for the movements of the incoming tourists but due to scarcity of Petrol the owners of such vehicles most often feel helpless and shortens the movement of the vehicles which indirectly affects the tourism. He has also stated that due to scarcity of Petrol the farmers, especially the farmers of the Neil islands which is known as the bowl of vegetable also are disturbed and feel themselves hapless when they can not reach to the jetty and local market place in time to dispose off their garden produces, which cause them heavy loss. The Lt Governor has given a patients hearing and assured to look into the matters.
