
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 19: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC A&N Islands) celebrated International Day of Yoga 2026 with great enthusiasm at its premises in Sri Vijaya Puram in association with Art of Living, Primary Health Centre (PHC), Brookshabad.
The programme was organized in line with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” which emphasizes the role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, emotional balance, and an active lifestyle across all age groups, including persons with disabilities.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by the felicitation of the guests. Mrs. Sumithamol, Director, CRC A&N Islands, delivered the keynote address and highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life to support healthy ageing, prevent lifestyle-related health issues, and improve overall quality of life.
The main yoga session was led by Mr. Ravinder Rao, Senior Faculty of Art of Living, Sri Vijaya Puram, who demonstrated various yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation practices, and laughter exercises. He explained how regular yoga practice contributes to physical strength, flexibility, stress reduction, and healthy ageing.
A special Y-Break Yoga Session was conducted by the team from PHC, Brookshabad, where participants were introduced to simple yoga practices that can be performed during short breaks to enhance concentration, reduce stress, and promote workplace wellness.
The programme witnessed active participation from Divyangjan, parents, staff members, interns, and members of the public. Ms. Manjula Sharma, Rehabilitation Psychologist, Agra, also joined the session and encouraged participants to adopt yoga and mindfulness practices as part of their daily routine to enhance mental health and emotional well-being.
The participants enthusiastically performed the yoga practices and appreciated the practical demonstrations and health-related information shared during the programme.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem. CRC A&N Islands expressed its sincere gratitude to Art of Living, PHC Brookshabad, AYUSH Department, participants, and all stakeholders for their valuable support and cooperation in making the programme a grand success.
