
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 17: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2026 in association with the Department of AYUSH, Sri Vijaya Puram, at its premises in Prothrapur on 17th June 2026.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from persons with disabilities, parents, caregivers, siblings, staff members, and interns, reflecting the spirit of inclusion and community well-being.
The event commenced with a welcome address followed by the keynote address delivered by Mrs. Sumithamol, Director, CRC A&N Islands, who emphasized the significance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, emotional resilience, and social inclusion. She highlighted the importance of adopting yoga as a way of life to enhance overall health and quality of life for all sections of society, including persons with disabilities.
The programme was graced by Dr. Harmeet Kaur, AYUSH, whose presence added value to the celebration. An interactive and inclusive yoga session was conducted by Ms. Soma, Yoga Instructor, AYUSH, who demonstrated various yoga postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation exercises suitable for participants of different age groups and abilities.
The session encouraged active participation from all attendees and reinforced this year’s International Day of Yoga theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” Participants experienced firsthand the benefits of yoga in improving flexibility, concentration, stress management, and overall wellness.
CRC A&N Islands expressed its sincere gratitude to the Department of AYUSH, Sri Vijaya Puram, for their support and collaboration in organizing the programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective commitment by participants to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for a healthier and happier future.
