
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 16: State Child Protection Society (SCPS), Directorate of Social Welfare, organized an awareness programme on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour to promote child rights, education and protection.
The programme was graced by Mr. Rashid Alam, Registrar General, Calcutta High Court and Member Secretary, SALSA, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Director of Social Welfare, officials from the Labour Department, representatives of Child Care Institutions and other stakeholders were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rashid Alam appreciated the efforts of the State Child Protection Society, for organizing such a meaningful and well-coordinated programme on World Day Against Child Labour. He stated that awareness programmes of this nature should be continue regularly as they play an important role in sensitizing society towards child rights, protection and welfare. He emphasized that every child deserves a safe, secure and nurturing environment and encouraged all stakeholders to continue working collectively for the well-being of children.
During the programme, Master PP Ashrak, a student of Government Senior Secondary School, Wimberly Gunj, who secured an outstanding 90% marks in the Science stream in Class XII without any coaching support, was felicitated by the department. The award was presented by the Chief Guest in recognition of his hard work, determination and academic excellence.
The In-Charges of various Non-Government Organisations managing Child Care Institutions were also honoured for their dedicated services and commitment towards the care, protection and development of children.
The programme featured speeches and cultural performances by children, conveying messages on child rights, education and the importance of a safe childhood. Earlier, Mr. A.K. Biswas, Superintendent, Juvenile Home, highlighted the importance of education in shaping children’s future and stressed that every child should be provided with opportunities to learn, grow and achieve their aspirations.
Rehaneth Begum Programme Manager, State Child Protection Society, emphasized that education and awareness are key to strengthening child protection systems and ensuring that every child receives the care, support and opportunities necessary for holistic development.
Mrs. Monalisa Biswas, NO(MV) proposed the Vote of Thanks and expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and stakeholders for their valuable support and cooperation. The programme concluded with a collective commitment to promoting the rights, dignity, and well-being of every child and fostering a more child-friendly and inclusive society.
