
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 15: IGNOU Regional Centre- Port Blair has organized Blood Donation Observance Day 2026 at the RС building on 15th June 2026. The programme was graced by chief guest Dr. H. M. Siddaraju, MBBS, MPH (ICMR-NIE) Director of Health Services (DHS), A & N Islands and Guest of Honour Dr. R. G. S Baghel, Principal In-charge, JNRM, Sri Vijaya Puram. The theme for the program is “One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives”.
IGNOU has organized poster competition and essay competition in two categories. Category 1st was for university students and category 2nd was for school students. Learners have participated enthusiastically and submitted paintings and essays in both the categories. For painting Category 1 (University Level) the first prize was won by Shriya and G. Swathi, second prize was won by B. Shyama and her team from ANIIMS and third prize won by P. Sweta, BA English, IGNOU. For category 2 (School level) the first prize was won by Himanshi Hira, KV-1 and second prize by Dhristi Halder, from Carmel Sr. Sec. School and third prize by Taniksha Swarnakar from Carmel Sr. Sec. School.
The candidates were awarded with memento, medal and certificates. The chief guest Dr. H. M. Siddaraju also delivered a lecture on the theme “One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives” and explained the importance of the blood donation for the welfare of people who has chronic disease. He also deciphered the myth regarding blood donation and explained how it can also be benefitted to the donor. Guest of Honour Dr. R. G. S Baghel, Principal In-charge, JNRM, Sri Vijaya Puram has also highlighted the importance of blood donation and traced its importance in the Indian Knowledge System. IGNOU Regional Director Prof. (Dr. Sunil Jacob) also addressed the gathering.
