Sri Vijaya Puram, June 14: The Summer Book Fest 2026 came to an end with a vibrant valedictory and prize distribution ceremony in the Conference Hall of the State Library, Sri Vijaya Puram. Organized by the Education Department, the festival celebrated the literary talent, creativity and enthusiasm of young readers from various schools. This fest helped the students and others to improve vocabulary, communication skills, critical thinking, memory, and general awareness through various competitions and interactive activities. It also encouraged creativity, teamwork, confidence, and healthy competition among participants
Mr. Aditya Sangotra, Director (Education), graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. In an engaging interaction with the students, he narrated an inspirational story illustrating how access to books and knowledge can transform lives and empower individuals to overcome challenges. He emphasized that libraries serve as gateways to lifelong learning and encouraged students to cultivate the habit of reading regularly.
He also took the opportunity to advise students to reduce excessive use of mobile phones and instead make productive use of their time by engaging with books and spending more time in libraries.
In her address, Mrs. Archana Singh, Nodal Officer, State Library congratulated all participants and winners, acknowledging the excitement and commitment shown by students throughout the week.
A brief report on the week’s activities was presented by Mr. Anbarasan, Incharge, State Library. He informed that a variety of competitions had been successfully conducted including storytelling sessions, treasure hunts, quizzes, spell bee contest, book dumb charades, memory shelf challenge, drawing and rhymes competition. More than 300 students from different schools enthusiastically participated in the two-phase programme.
A student namely Master Krithvik Vihaan from Mahatma Gandhi International school delivered an outstanding rhyme on the importance of the library and its access to various readers. Mr. Suresh J. Panicker, Librarian, State Library, proposed the vote of thanks.
