Campbell Bay, June 10: Acting on a tip-off, the staff of Police Station Campbell Bay conducted a jungle search operation in the Rajiv Nagar forest area on 7th June and recovered approximately 800 litres of illicit lahan stored for the manufacture of country liquor.
During the operation, the police team detected several drums and jerry cans containing fermented lahan hidden inside the jungle. As no claimant or person connected with the illegal activity was found at the spot, the entire quantity of recovered lahan was destroyed on-site.
The operation was led by SHO Mithun Kirtania and included Police Constable Abhishek along with Home Guards Sandeep Tirkey, Sandeep, and Sinu.
Our Correspondent added that cases related to the manufacture and sale of country liquor have reportedly increased across the region over the past several months. Many residents believe that the continued closure of ANIIDCO wine shops has significantly increased the demand for illicit country liquor, leading to a rise in such activities. Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal liquor production and ensuring strict enforcement of the law.
