Sri Vijaya Puram, June 9: As part of the nationwide celebration of 10 year of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) with the theme “10 Years of PMSMA: Safer Pregnancies, Healthier Mothers, Stronger India”, special screening activities were organized across all health facilities today to strengthen maternal healthcare services and ensure safe motherhood. Ayushman Arogya Shivirs were conducted throughout the islands.
Meanwhile, the 10-year celebration of Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) and the ‘Nutritious Laddu Distribution Initiative for Pregnant Women’ were conducted at Dr. R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder, in coordination with the District Health Society, North & Middle Andaman, in the presence of chief guest, Smt. Meena, Samiti Member, along with Dr. Christina Rossity (MOIC), Dr. Alice Bwa (Medical Officer), Dr. Meenakshi (Gynaecologist), Dr. Prudhvi (Paediatrician), Dr Aathira J Prakash (Psychiatrist), District Programme Manager, DHS, N&M Andaman, and other Medical Officer, healthcare professionals health staff.
During the programme, antenatal check-ups, specialist consultations, and counselling services were provided to pregnant women. Health talks on antenatal care, maternal nutrition, safe motherhood, institutional delivery, newborn care, and breastfeeding were delivered by the medical team. Addressing the gathering, Smti. Meena encouraged pregnant women to avail regular antenatal services and adopt healthy practices throughout pregnancy.
As part of the nutritious laddu distribution initiative, undertaken under the guidance of the Chairman, District Health Society, North & Middle Andaman, nutrient-rich laddus specially prepared using wholesome ingredients, along with Nutrition Kits containing dry fruits, dates, jaggery, and other nutritious food items, were distributed to pregnant women attending the programme. The initiative was aimed at supporting the nutritional needs of expectant mothers, promoting healthy dietary practices, and creating awareness about the importance of adequate nutrition during pregnancy for ensuring healthy mothers and healthy babies.
