Sri Vijaya Puram, June 5: The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism, A&N Administration, proposes to permit operation of transparent kayaking activities at the Neem-o-Reef–Jetty stretch, Swaraj Dweep, in accordance with the recommendations of the Risk Assessment Report carried out under the provisions of the A&N Islands Watersports Guidelines, 2015.
The proposed operational area extends between the Jetty–Neem-o-Reef, Swaraj Dweep (Coordinates: – (a) Latitudinal positions are. 12°2’436” North to 11°58.669” North (b) Longitudinal positions are 095°59’030” East to 093°1.140” East), which has been identified as a suitable location for kayaking activities. The initiative aims to decongest the existing Jetty–Lighthouse kayaking stretch and provide additional opportunities for tourism stakeholders while ensuring effective monitoring and regulation.
The Neem-o-Reef stretch is known for its rich marine biodiversity, underwater flora and fauna. In order to enhance the visitor experience and promote eco-friendly tourism, permission in the proposed area shall be restricted to transparent kayaks only, enabling tourists to view and appreciate the marine ecosystem while kayaking.
Interested kayak operators/centres/tourism stakeholders desirous of operating transparent kayaks in the proposed area are invited to submit their applications to the Adventure Watersports Section, Directorate of IP&T. A maximum of two (02) transparent kayaks shall be permitted per applicant for operation in the said area. Detailed terms and conditions, checklist, eligibility criteria, and application procedures may be obtained from the Adventure Watersports Section of Directorate of IP&T.
