
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 03: MY Bharat, Sri Vijaya Puram, in collaboration with Gram Panchayat Kanyapuram, celebrated World Bicycle Day 2026 with enthusiasm and active youth participation at Mini Stadium, Wimberly Gunj. The programme was originally scheduled at Kadakachang, Kanyapuram; however, due to heavy rainfall, the event was successfully completed at the Mini Stadium, Wimberly Gunj.
Mr. P. Abdul Basheer, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Kanyapuram graced the occasion as Guests. In his address, Mr. Abdul Basheer highlighted the importance of cycling as an affordable, eco-friendly, and healthy mode of transportation. He encouraged the youth to adopt cycling in their daily lives to maintain good health and contribute towards environmental conservation.
Mr. Sukha Ranjan Biswas, Joint Director, MY Bharat, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram, attended the programme as the Special Guest. Addressing the participants, he emphasized the significance of World Bicycle Day in promoting fitness, sustainable mobility, and environmental awareness among youth. He encouraged young people to make cycling a regular habit, stating that cycling not only improves physical and mental well-being but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions and building a cleaner and greener nation. He further highlighted the role of youth in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat through healthy, disciplined, and environmentally responsible lifestyles.
Earlier, Mr. Deepak Kumar, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat, Sri Vijaya Puram, welcomed the dignitaries and participants and briefed the gathering about the objectives of World Bicycle Day and the various youth-centric initiatives of MY Bharat.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sunita Patil, Ex-Volunteer of MY Bharat, who ensured the smooth conduct of the event despite adverse weather conditions.
Around 30 youth participants actively participated in the programme. All participants were conferred Participation Certificates in recognition of their enthusiastic involvement. The winners securing the First, Second, and Third positions were also felicitated with gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.
The event concluded successfully with a renewed commitment among participants to promote cycling for health, fitness, and environmental sustainability.
