Sri Vijaya Puram, June 2: The Kalapani Auto Union has urged the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) to take immediate steps to improve the condition of the public toilet located at the Aberdeen Bazaar Auto Rickshaw Stand, describing its present state as extremely poor and unhygienic.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary of SVPMC, the union stated that the toilet facility has deteriorated significantly due to a lack of regular cleaning and maintenance. According to the representation, the premises have become filthy, foul-smelling and unsuitable for public use, causing inconvenience to auto drivers, passengers and members of the public.
The union further alleged that there is inadequate water supply to the toilet and that several portions of the facility are damaged. It claimed that the sanitation system appears to have been neglected for a prolonged period, raising concerns about hygiene and the potential spread of infections and other diseases.
Highlighting the importance of the location, the union pointed out that Aberdeen Bazaar is one of the busiest commercial centres in the city and is visited daily by a large number of residents, commuters and tourists. The public toilet, being frequently used by auto drivers and visitors, plays a crucial role in maintaining public sanitation standards in the area.
The representation noted that the present condition of the facility not only causes inconvenience but also reflects poorly on civic maintenance. The union stressed that proper sanitation facilities are essential for public health and should be maintained on priority.
Kalapani Auto Union General Secretary Mr. K. Anand Kumar requested the municipal authorities to undertake immediate cleaning, repair and maintenance work and ensure adequate water supply at the facility. The union also called for regular monitoring of the toilet so that clean, safe and hygienic amenities can be provided to the public and the auto-rickshaw community.
