Sri Vijaya Puram May 21: Weather Warning for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning activity over the next few days.
According to the IMD forecast, heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the Islands on May 22 along with thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph and lightning. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue during the subsequent days.
The fishermen warning stated that squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coast from May 20 to May 22. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
A swell surge alert has also been issued for the coast of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Swell waves ranging between 16.0 to 18.0 seconds period with heights of 1.6 to 1.7 metres are forecast till 2330 hrs on May 21. Authorities have advised boats to ply with utmost vigilance and urged people to avoid recreational activities in the sea.
Under the farmer warning, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely to occur at isolated places over the Islands on May 21 and 22. Thunderstorms with gusty winds are also likely to continue till May 25.
The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in weather conditions.
