
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 19: Mr. R Madhavan met the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, at the Secretariat in Sri Vijaya Puram regarding several important public issues related to the Rangat region. Mr. Debabrata Das, Pradhan of Swadesh Nagar was also present during the meeting.
During the meeting, Mr. R. Madhavan raised the long-pending issue of the TV Kullam Bridge under Shivapuram Panchayat, which has remained closed for the past seven years. He informed the Chief Secretary that villagers of TV Kullam are extremely upset and facing serious inconvenience due to the closure of the bridge. He requested immediate directions to the concerned APWD officials for construction of a new RCC bridge at TV Kullam.
He also highlighted the poor condition of Yeratta Jetty, stating that no major repair work has been carried out for nearly ten years. The alternate pontoon arrangement functioning for the last three years was also described as being in a dangerous condition. He urged the administration to direct the concerned authorities for immediate inspection and urgent repair work of both the Yeratta Jetty and the pontoon facility.
Mr. Madhavan further demanded regular passenger vessel services from Sri Vijaya Puram to Rangat through bigger vessels such as MV Bambhooka and MV North Passage to improve transportation facilities for the people of North and Middle Andaman.
Chief Secretary Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, patiently listened to all the matters and reportedly assured that necessary steps would be taken to address the issues at the earliest.
