
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 12: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, has issued a weather, fisherman, farmer and port warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands based on forecasts received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata.
The weather is expected to intensify from May 14 to May 17, during which heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds is likely to affect one or two places across the Islands.
The advisory further stated that squally winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coast from May 14 to May 18. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
The Directorate has also warned of swell surges along the coast of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with wave heights expected between 1.1 metres and 1.6 metres. Small boats and recreational activities near the coast have been advised to exercise utmost caution.
Farmers have also been cautioned regarding possible heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning during the forecast period. Meanwhile, port authorities have been advised to remain alert, while the outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in weather conditions.
