Sri Vijaya Puram, May 10: The State Control Room has issued a weather, fisherman, farmer and port warning based on the forecast received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata, for the next several days across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
According to the warning issued at 1415 IST, heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 11 cm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the Islands on May 10 and again on May 14. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and lightning are also likely to occur at isolated places during this period.
The IMD has further forecast thunderstorm activity with lightning and gusty winds over the Islands from May 11 onwards. Farmers have been advised to remain alert as heavy rain along with thunderstorms and lightning may affect agricultural activities in various parts of the Islands during the coming days.
The warning also stated that no specific fisherman or port warning has been issued at present. However, residents, farmers and seafarers have been advised to remain cautious and follow updates issued by the concerned authorities and weather agencies.
The Administration has urged the general public to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms, avoid venturing into vulnerable areas during heavy rain and remain alert to weather advisories issued from time to time.
