Sri Vijaya Puram, May 07: The State Control Room has issued a weather warning based on inputs received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cautioning residents across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands about likely thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning over the next several days.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places across the islands from May 8 to May 13, 2026. The warning has also been extended to farmers, advising them to remain alert and take necessary precautions to safeguard crops, livestock, and agricultural activities during the period.
A swell surge alert has also been issued for coastal areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Swell waves in the range of 1.7 to 1.8 metres height with a period of 17.0–20.0 seconds are forecast till 11:30 PM on May 8, 2026. Authorities have advised that the surging waves may lead to near-shore possible small vessel activities. Fishermen and small boat operators have been advised not to venture near the coastline and to avoid activities at beaches during the alert period.
The Port Warning has indicated only little change in the prevailing conditions.
The Administration has urged residents, fishermen, farmers, tourists, and all concerned departments to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories issued by the authorities to avoid any untoward incidents during the adverse weather conditions.
