Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 29: The Annual Sports Meet 2026 of Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College, Mayabunder was held on 29th April, in the college sports ground with a colourful exhibition of energy and enthusiasm. A large number of students, teachers and supportive staff joined the crowd on 29th April to cheer the participants. Mr. Vikas Swami, IPS and the Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District graced the event as the Chief Guest. Principal Dr. R.V.R. Murthy presided over the whole event as the Guest of Honour. The event kicked off with the lighting of the college sports torch by two students namely Rithika and Altab who consistently performed well in various sports activities throughout the year.
IPS Mr. Vikas Swamy unfurled the college sports flag and addressed the gathering. In his speech, Mr. Swami emphasized on consistency and hardwork. He encouraged the students not only to pursue their sportsmanship in the utmost sincere manner but also encouraged them to pursue their career goals with equal importance. Dr. R.V.R. Murthy in his speech projected a brief history of the college and recounted a number of achievements the college has made over the past few years. He sincerely praised the hard work that the students and faculty members put together to make this event a successful one.
Around 260 medals and certificates in various categories were distributed among the students. This included a number of indoor sports that took place throughout the year. Apart from this, another set of track events were held on the ground. This included 100 mtr, 200 mtr, 400 mtr relay races (girls), and 1500 mtr race for boys. Mr. Vikas Swami, Dr. R.V.R. Murthy and other faculty and staff members distributed medals and certificates to the winners on the ground. Mr. Bidhu Bhushan Mondal and Dr. Prashant Kumar Choudhary who acted as the patron and convenor respectively, along with other faculty members coordinated in the ground to conduct races, prize distribution ceremony and oversaw a smooth conduction of the whole event. The students of Political Science bagged the overall current trophy and in individual categories C.Varsha (Geography final year) and Robin (Political Science final year) won overall championship. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
